A governed public view of the U.S. Census Bureau as a boundary-data publisher — its 2023 county Gazetteer file and the five governed land/water measurements drawn from it for the NYC-area counties. Dataset
The Census Bureau publishes an annual county Gazetteer file, a TIGER/Line-derived attribute table (not raw geometry) giving each county's land area, water area, and internal point. This page uses the 2023 vintage.

Validation and provenance
Land/water area figures and internal points are the Census Bureau's own published values, retrieved directly from the 2023 county Gazetteer file; this page does not independently recompute them. The distribution-modified timestamp is the file's own HTTP Last-Modified value, not this page's own retrieval or review time. Limitations
This page presents the Census Bureau's own published values as published. It does not independently verify Census geometry, and it is not the place to compare Census against other sources — that comparison, including area agreement/difference against DCP, OpenStreetMap, and NYS Civil Boundaries, lives on NYC Boundaries. The Gazetteer file is an attribute table, not raw geometry — it carries no polygon boundary of its own.
